Why y'all should compost.

April 22nd rolls around and it is time to talk about composting.

I really think everyone should compost, it is easy and very beneficial for the Earth, and your own health.

All organic material comes directly from the earth, and is in a way made of earth.

"Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, everything is transformed."

That good old physics lesson you found so boring turns out to be pretty relevant. In nature, there is an amount of matter, and that's it. You live with it. Anything you create is made of something, and organic stuff is made from the earth. Think of it. Humans are organic, they eat food that comes from the ground. They are made of earth. And when they die, they go back to the earth, to be transformed into ground (composting) and then help grow plants and turn into humans again.

That's weird, and I am not a scientist, but it is the way it works. This is why we may actually all have a proton that was once in the body of Julius Caesar. Yes. Even weirder.

Anyways, according to this law, we may as well dispose in the best way we can in our stuff, because "... we face scarcity of things not because things useful to us are being destroyed, but because things of high utility to us are being converted to things of no utility." (Quora)

Let's go back to compost. The point I want to bring to you is that if we take food (or any other organic matter) from the earth and don't give it back, how can we keep taking it?

The best way to ensure a future for nutritious food and healthy soils is composting, because by keeping extracting nutrients from the soils without giving them back, we exhaust the soils. Composting is the best way to improve the quality of our soils.

Also, the organic waste that goes into landfill cannot biodegrade, because it is surrounded by non-biodegradable waste, and it produces methane gas, which is a greenhouse gas 21 times more powerful than CO2. (Green Action Centre)

If you have a garden, you can simply dig a hole, put your compost in it and reuse it in your vegetable garden the next year. It will most likely have urned into ground. If not, you can find out if there is a compost pick up in your community.

Usually, farmers are happy to take organic waste because it helps them grow more and better food.

Most of our waste is either recyclable or compostable.

Make a step towards a more informed and sustainable world today.
